Monaco Made Easy · Guides for visitors
Step-free Monaco
Monaco is built on a steep hillside, but much of it can be reached without a single step, if you know which lifts and paths to use.
Lifts first
Monaco’s free public lifts link most of the levels of the town, including the harbour and the Rock, where the Prince’s Palace stands. With a wheelchair or a pushchair, they’re the key to getting around.
Our step-free mode
Switch on Wheelchair or pushchair in the app and every route uses lifts and level paths only: no steps and no escalators. If there’s no step-free way between two places, the app tells you, rather than sending you up a staircase.
Buses and the harbour ferry
- Buses climb the hills for you. The app shows the next buses near you.
- The small electric Bateau-Bus ferry crosses Port Hercule and has a boarding ramp.
Accessible toilets
There are accessible toilets at the Casino Square tourist office, the Oceanographic Museum, the Grimaldi Forum, Larvotto Beach and Port Hercule. The app shows the nearest public toilets wherever you are.
Some sights have steep or stepped paths inside, such as the Exotic Garden. The sea path from Cap d’Ail to Monaco has uneven ground and steps, so it isn’t suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs.
