The sea path from Cap d’Ail to Monaco
Our favourite walk: along the water from the little cove of Plage de la Mala in Cap d’Ail, round the headland, and into Monaco at the heliport. About 3.6 km and an hour’s easy walking, with the sea beside you most of the way.
The walk, stop by stop
- Plage de la Mala. A small cove with clear water, below the villas of Cap d’Ail. There are steps down to the beach and the path. Cap d’Ail station is about 10 minutes’ walk away.
- Pointe des Douaniers. The path follows the rocks round the headland, with views back along the coast.
- Plage Marquet. A sandy beach in a sheltered bay, with a beach restaurant.
- Port de Cap d’Ail. Cap d’Ail’s marina, with cafés and restaurants on the quay.
- Monaco Heliport. You’re in Monaco. Fontvieille’s shops and restaurants are a few minutes further on.
The path is right by the sea, with uneven ground and some steps, so it isn’t suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs. It’s closed when the sea is rough: check the signs at each end. Wear good shoes and take water.
Getting to the start
Take the train to Cap d’Ail station, a short walk from Plage de la Mala. From the heliport at the end, Fontvieille and Monaco’s lifts are close by for the rest of your day.
In the app, the walk comes with a map of the route, directions between the stops, and the step count for each part. It’s part of Monaco Made Easy Pro.
