Getting around Beausoleil, above Monte-Carlo
Beausoleil is in France, right behind Monte-Carlo. The border is just a street, with no checks, and many visitors stay here. It’s steep, so the trick is knowing the lifts for the way back up.
Down into Monaco
From Place de la Libération it’s an easy walk of about 12 minutes downhill into Monte-Carlo and Casino Square. Head down towards Boulevard de France, which is the border, and follow the signs for the Casino.
Back up: use the lifts
Beausoleil has its own public lifts between the lower and upper town, including:
- The Rex lift, on Square Kraemer.
- The Libération lift, in the car park at Place de la Libération.
- The Palais Joséphine lift, in central Beausoleil.
- The Chemin de la Noix lift, towards the Vallon de la Noix.
In 2020 Beausoleil’s lifts were reported to run from 5am to 9pm, so later in the evening you may need the stairs, a bus or a taxi.
Shops and supermarkets
Beausoleil has supermarkets, bakeries and its own tourist office. The app’s guide lists them with opening hours and the easiest way there.
Monaco taxis can’t collect you in France. In Beausoleil, book a French taxi or try Uber or Bolt, or walk into Monaco and use a Monaco taxi.
